Convocation of a National Elective Chapter

The National Elective Chapter of the Secular Franciscan Order of Great Britain will be held at:

Wistaston Hall, Crewe, CW2 8JS

September 25 -27,  2015

Dear Lord,

As we prepare for our national elections we ask for Your presence, remembering Your promise to those who gather in your name.

We ask for an attitude of conversion so that, as individuals and as the national fraternity, we seek to turn more and more towards You.

We ask that You will be at the centre of our Chapter and that You will guide us so that we come to know Your will and always desire to live in accordance with Your will.

We ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten us so that we discover what is best for the life of our national fraternity today.

May we always remember that our labour will be in vain if it is not You who build the house.

Enlighten the darkness of our hearts and give us true faith, certain hope and perfect charity, sense and knowledge Lord, so that we may carry our Your holy and true command.

San Damiano, Assisi

San Damiano (built in the 12th century) was the first monastery of the Order of Saint Clare, where Saint Clare built her community.

It was here that St Francis encountered Christ. In 1205 he had been praying at San Damiano which at the time was a very run down building. From the San Damiano crucifix the figure of Christ said to him, “Francis, don’t you see my house is falling in ruins? Go, then, and repair it!” Afterwards Saint Francis took action to repair San Damiano, although he eventually realized that God’s message to him was to restore the Church as a whole rather than literally repair churches such as San Damiano. The San Damiano crucifix currently hangs in the Basilica di Santa Chiara (Basilica of Saint Clare) in Assisi.
