Our Paula in Rome

Paula-01

The image shows Paula at the Chapter in Rome with delegates from France and Ireland. Paula writes this morning (Tuesday): “Really inspiring talk yesterday, lots to bring home to you. We are all included here as we talk and share our ofs life, wish others could be here too P e b”

The CIOFS website (it’s still up!) has details of the opening Mass presided over by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and details of the opening addresses. Here is a link to the Chapter Flickr photo feed. There are a great many photos there already.

I have posted other photos from Paula in the members only National Fraternity OFSGB facebook page. We hope to present some coverage on our national Twitter page, and possibly our as yet very under utilised Instagram account. Will the Instagrammers among you please come to our aid!

The CIOFS facebook page has regular updates, and had a live video feed on Sunday and Monday. Presumably they will continue with this live feed for those who want to follow the Chapter in real time

Here is the “Definitive Programme”, copied from the CIOFS website:

Today the Chapter reflects on “Instrumentum Laboris” subtitled: “How should an Order like the Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) be managed at all its levels?” During the 2014 General Chapter, capitulars reflected on this theme and were encouraged to lead a reflection within their respective national fraternities with all professed brothers and sisters during the three years 2014 to 2017. Paula received the results of these reflections from many of us, and so Paula is able to present our views to Chapter: on the strengths, weaknesses and priorities of our national fraternity, as well as the strengths and challenges in the management of the OFS at the international level.

Finally, here you have a photo of Attilio Galimberti, our Presidency councillor. Hard at work on our behalf?

CIOFS Website

ciofs-website

The CIOFS website is currently available again! Those of you who have tried to access the CIOFS website over the last few months will know that it was down for rather a long time. It reappeared, then disappeared again. Our CIOFS link gave us only an unhelpful page from WebFaction, presumably the CIOFS web developer.
I contacted Attilio Galimberti, our Presidency councillor, who tells me that a new website is under development.
The CIOFS website that has reappeared very recently I understand to be the old site.
Attilio tells me that our Minister General, Tibor Kauser, will be updating the General Chapter (which is currently taking place in Rome) about the site. So we should have a clearer picture soon.

John Bradburne: The Vagabond of God

John with Peter Katsandanga

John Bradburne with Peter Katsandanga

John Bradburne was a member of the OFS, born in Cumbria, and shot to death in Zimbabwe in 1979. Paula Pearce, our National Minister, has been in contact with the John Bradburne Memorial Society, and will update us in the near future about what has been happening and how OFSGB might help to progress the cause.

Here, Michael Simmonds (Bedford Fraternity) kindly provides us with this review of “John Bradburne: The Vagabond of God”, written by Didier Rance, who is a member of the OFS. This is a new biography, published this year, with a foreword by Jean Vanier.

David Gleave (Ipswich Fraternity) also writes to recommend the book: “I would like to recommend to you an excellent new biography about John Bradburne, a member of our Order, entitled ‘The Vagabond of God’ by Didier Rance. Didier, a French member of the OFS, has produced the most comprehensive life of John, covering his childhood, service as a reluctant hero in the Second World War, subsequent faith journey and work with lepers at Mutemwa. It is full of interesting information about John that was not available at the time Fr John Dove SJ produced his earlier book on John. A few of us have already enjoyed this wonderful book – when purchased from the John Bradburne Memorial Society shop – please see attached flier [copied below Michael’s review] – the proceeds go towards supporting the Mutemwa Leprosy and Care Village.”

Further information may be found at the website of the John Bradburne Memorial Society.
