September 2019: Pope Francis offers a prayer intention for the month of September 2019

Good and gracious God, you created the Earth and all that is in it. We thank you for the abundant blessing of water and its availability in our lives.

We pray for the oceans, air, mountains, plants, and soil, that life and health may pulse in them. Help us to discern how we have polluted our oceans. Empower us to empathize with the groaning of creation. Guide us to have a change of heart so that we stop harming our planet. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us that we may have the passion and wisdom to work effectively to protect and restore your creation.

Bless the Earth and all its life in every way. Bless us and teach us to care for the oceans and all our waterways. And so, with St. Francis of Assisi we pray for Sister Water.

We praise and thank You, Lord, for the gift of living water.
Guide us to use it wisely, to learn from its humility,
To consume it sparingly, and to protect its purity,

Amen.

August 2019: Pope Francis offers a prayer intention for the month of August 2019

Lord God, from You every family in Heaven and on earth takes its name.
Father, You are love and life. Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, born of woman, and through the Holy Spirit, the fountain of divine charity, grant that every family on earth may become for each successive generation a true shrine of life and love.
Grant that Your grace may guide the thoughts and actions of husbands and wives for the good of their families and of all the families in the world.
Grant that the young may find in the family solid support for their human dignity and for their growth in truth and love.
Grant that love, strengthened by the grace of the sacrament of marriage, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass.
Through the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that the Church may fruitfully carry out her worldwide mission in the family and through the family.
We ask this of You, Who is life, truth and love with the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

July 2019: Pope Francis offers a prayer intention for the month of July.

Lord God, author of justice and peace, give us your wisdom to know how to proceed in practical affairs!
Lord God of mercy and power, we recognize you as the source of all authority on this earth, and we beg that you give your grace to those who hold public office. In a special way, they need your wisdom to decide aright in difficult matters, and to defend those who cannot speak for themselves – the unborn, the immigrant, the senile, the despairing.
Lord, God of life and of love, you have chosen to make us stewards of this world. We beg you to help us use this office in a way that is pleasing to you and respectful of all our sisters and brothers, born and yet unborn. Give us the wisdom daily to be just in our own decisions and prudent in our own choices. Give us the heart to be willing to do the spiritual works of mercy, when convenient and when inconvenient. Make us men and women of integrity, and inspire those who have been entrusted with authority, always to respect the natural moral law and to look for the common good.
Amen.

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for May is for the Respect for Women: That in every country of the world, women may be honored and respected and that their essential contribution to society may be highly esteemed. The Apostleship of Prayer has produced the Pope’s Video on this prayer intention.
The full text of the Pope’s Video is below
Women
The contribution of women in all areas of human activity is undeniable, beginning with the family.
But only to recognize it…Is that enough?
We have done little for the women who are in very difficult situations–despised, marginalized, and even reduced to slavery.
We must condemn sexual violence against women and remove the barriers that prevent their full integration into social, political, and economic life.
If you think this is clearly right, join my petition. It is a prayer–that in all countries of the world women may be honored and respected and valued for their essential contribution to society.
I DO MY JOB AS WELL AS A MAN.
I WILL NEVER BE A SLAVE.
NO GENDER VIOLENCE.
ENOUGH OF DISCRIMINATION AT WORK.
MEN AND WOMEN ARE CHILDREN OF GOD.

Pope Francis is urging Christians to support children and families in difficulty so that children are raised in “healthy and peaceful environments.” He reflects on the theme: “the family is one of the most precious assets of humanity. But, is it not perhaps the most vulnerable?” “When a family is exposed to economic, health, or other difficulties, the children grow up in an environment of sadness.” Meditating on this issue, Pope Francis says, “I want to share with you and with Jesus my prayer intention for the month: That families in need may receive the necessary support and that children may grow up in healthy and peaceful environments.” (from Vatican Radio)
