South Wales Event for 800th Anniversary of St. Francis meeting Sultan Malek El Kamil

Wonderful experience today at the Dar el Usra mosque in Cardiff. A lunch provided by the Anglican Franciscan Third Order to commemorate the meeting of Saint Francis of Assisi and Sultan Malek el Kamil eight hundred years ago. Guests included the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Wales, the Anglican Bishop of Llandaff, representatives of the OFS and TSSF, Cytùn and Muslim members of the Mosque. Roman Catholic Archbishop George Stack sent his apologies.
A beautiful Halal meal was prepared by a chef, who is a Candidate of the Anglican Third Order. A dialogue between St. Francis and the Sultan (based of Franciscan  and Islamic Sources) was read by two of the organisers and was warmly received. Conversations followed that were open and positive. Much surprise was expressed about the historic encounter that many had never heard of. More gatherings will follow to encourage dialogue and shared work for Peace and Care for Creation.
