Advent Reflection

By Liam Redmond

In Secular Britain Christmas begins on the 1st December and finishes on the 25th. It is a time of shopping eating and drinking (sometimes stress worries and panic)

However for us Christians we understand the 1st of December (this year) as the beginning of Advent, a time of preparation (that mirrors Lent) for the coming of The Word of God.

We Franciscans believe that Christmas is as important as Easter (without Christmas there is no Easter). This is when the humble God is willing to become small and weak for us and infuse relationship within us.

So I ask you during this Lent 01/12/24 – 24/12/24 do continue to celebrate, eating, drinking but please remember the selflessness of The Lord by opening your hearts and minds, so in the Franciscan spiritual way you may walk ‘in the heart ‘and recognise HIM (Jesus) in the poor, outcast, vulnerable and needy within our community.

PaxEt Bonum

And enjoy your Advent
